The Mansion, Plas Glansevin
Access
Statement
The mansion is approached along a private tarmac driveway
with two speed bumps.
- There is a level (rough cut) gravel car park in front
of the mansion and further level parking to the side
and the rear of the building.
- Access to the front of the mansion is up a small step
(a temporary ramp is available) through wide double doors
across a level mat well.
- Access to the rear of the building is through a wide
door (90 cm) across a level mat well.
- There is level access to the main reception rooms (the
lounge, the games room, and TV room 1) from the front
hall. These rooms have ample natural light as well as
lighting. There is a ramp to the loos (ladies and gents, no wheelchair facilities)
and the extra kitchen and drying room.
ROOM 12. GROUND-FLOOR ACCESSIBLE ENSUITE BEDROOM
- There are three steps on the passageway leading to
these rooms and the rear of the building. (A temporary
ramp is available; it is steeper than the regulations
stipulate so wheelchair users might require assistance.)
- This double/twin room (room 12) has a wide doorway
(81cm) and an internal door (87cm) to the shower room.
It has low hanging rail as well as a high hanging rail
for clothes. The bed height is 60 cm. Door handles,
light switches, and power points are at a sensible height.
This room is also accessible from the back door along
a level passageway.
- The ensuite disabled shower room is also accessible
through another door from the passageway, so that it
is available for use throughout the day (the connecting
door through to the bedroom can be locked). Loo seat
height 47 cm. There are grab rails and drop down rail.
The hand basin has a lever tap. The shower has a ramp
and swing doors and two grab rails. A shower seat is
available on request.
- The open-plan dining room/kitchen is accessible from
the level passageway past the downstairs bedroom, from
the back door, or through the double French doors from
the terrace (temporary ramp available). The dining room
floor is ancient uneven flagstones. The dining chairs
have arms. If it is a large group some people will be
seated on benches. There is a narrow (72 cm) opening
from the dining room into the main kitchen. The washing-up
kitchen and loos (no wheelchair facilities) are accessible
through a curtain (opening 71 cm wide, restrictive
turn) at the rear of the dining room.
- Double doors (93 cm opening) from the dining room lead
to TV room 2. There is a step up into the room (temporary
ramp available).
- The paved terrace is accessible from the dining room
(see above) or around the side of the building across
level gravel.
- The flat back lawn area is accessible up a small slope
from the terrace. There is a gravel and paved path around
the side of the building that leads to the side lawn
(the putting green) and the swimming pool area. This
area can also be reached from the back lawn via a small
level path through the rhododendrons.
- The outdoor unheated swimming pool (max depth 1.22m)
is accessible by removable wooden steps. Next to it is
the wood-fired sauna with a warm level-entry shower in
the entrance. There is an alarm by the pool.
- The gravel path leads around the side of the house
to the front and onto the level front lawn, which is
bordered by shrubs and trees.
- Anywhere on the ground floor of the building where
there is a small change of level is marked with yellow
and black striped tape.
- The main stairs are very wide (sufficient for two people
standing side by side). The handrail is on the right
(ascending).
- There is no wheelchair access to the upstairs bedrooms.
All bedrooms are clearly numbered and have push plates
on the doors. There are non-feather pillows and duvets
with poly cotton covers and sheets throughout. There
are bedside lights in all the rooms; additional lights
are available on request.
- There are non-slip mats for all the baths.
- Flats 1 and 2 are accessible up an outside metal staircase.
- Remote control TV (with teletext in TV room 2), video, and DVD in both TV
rooms.
- Vodafone is the only reliable mobile phone network
at Plas Glansevin.
- The building is fitted with an audible (only) fire
alarm system.
- Assistance dogs are welcome.
- There is a member of staff available on the telephone
to assist wherever possible.
